Even This One

Wounded
even this one
like so many
tears
swelling
uncontrollably
adding ambush to defeat
clustering like grapes
whaling
spilling more loss
into an emptiness growing
replete with regret
recalling
how it once was
imagined.

Someone had lied
whispers in a garden
where truth was
traded
and doubting triumphed
suddenly
nakedness saw
and understood its need to hide
feeling the sun setting
the heart ablaze
with darkness
even
though it was
clinging to life lit
with each cold laugh
dripping
with its own dire need
to overcome
this dying.

Accused
even this one
like so many
lost
searching
desperately adding
qualm to questions
when she heard

The Word

Walking
Piercing
Asking

Who has told you that you were naked?
From dirt you were taken
And
To dirt you shall return
Naked
Unless you turn…

She spun
flung
at His feet
with so many questions
and all her accusers
vanished
gone
even
the biggest
boulder tumbled
turning her many scars
to sweetest perfume mixing
her flood of tears with His
love never ending
and complete.

Healed
even this one
like so many
streams
swelling
uncontrollably
adding gratitude to grace
clustering like golden
grapes
spilling more sweetness
into an emptiness growing
replete with hope
recalling
how it once was
foreshadowed.

Someone had prophesied
prayers in a garden
where fear was
traded
and love triumphed
suddenly
nakedness saw
and understood its need to hide
feeling the sun setting
her heart ablaze
with love
even
though she saw
it nailed to a cross
with each cold spike
dripping
with perfect life
to dethrone
this death.

Victorious
even this one
like so many
redeemed
swelling
uncontrollably
adding melody to music
clustering like grapes
rejoicing
spilling more gladness
into this victory sealed
replete with grace
revealing
how it once was
promised.

Scripture

Dry Lips

Those who advocate truth
may not be free
to speak
but bloated
steeped in honey-dipped verbosity
and bound
by their own rightness
having lost not self
(as was hoped)
but the keys
while making love
hate all
opposition
to what the fingers of the little will
must hold onto
too tightly
too willfully
too accurately too
that even the days drop
denser shadows
darker even
than black
oil slicks
slipping
into moonless nights
glossy as true light
yet reflecting nothing
but their own spry spittle
no longer warm and tender
like the first morning
speaking
grace
growing life
out of dust
and love
out of wrath
to confuse the night
and to condemn
all
condemnation
but not these
bent reeds
and smold’ring wicks
quenched and crushed
by words
not sent by Him
flameless flames speaking
so shamelessly sharp
that their hearers’ ears are left to lie
severed and bleeding
on the side of life
growing deaf and blind
and dry
lips
move
without any
tenderness to hush
and to comprehend whatsoever
is honorable and true
righteous and pure
praiseworthy
precious
deeds
of glory
and much
praise

pray

that I would
hush
and meditate
on these

please!

“Truth lies in character. Christ did not simply speak the truth; he was truth; truth, through and through…” – Frederick W. Robertson

“I would rather play with forked lightning… than speak a reckless word against any servant of Christ, or idly repeat the slanderous darts which thousands of Christian are hurling on others.” – A.B. Simpson

Scripture

Zeal

Zeal
for God’s truth
is not about being right
it is right
being
true, just, eternal
and full of grace
it is
not a tempest loosed like hungry hounds
not our own stormy desires
to defend
the lion that needs no defending
but His bold love
living
laced
with much kindness
and patience.

Zeal
for God’s truth
is
life
giving
The Gospel – His Passion – His Saving
GRACE
His Cross
His Son
cherished
His Spirit
active
in our faith
while we live
while we give
all
plus
our other cheek
without being cheeky
