Rocks

rocks
rough and unbalanced
fit for his fingers
but not his palace
flawless
touching takes time
and grace
saves
the tough
kicking and kicked
even more
grace
transforms
even these rocks

cry out

I can see
into stones crying
I can see

love

in you (and in me)
rough and unbalanced
fashioned for his fingers
fit for his palace
flawless
touching gives hope
and grace
tumbles
rough rocks
into perfect stones
even now
the stone that was
rejected has become
the corner stone

Petra O. Hefner

“Jesus Christ came into my prison cell last night, and every stone flashed like a ruby.”
– Samuel Rutherford
